About
This is me, the summer after planting my first native garden in spring 2024. I am enormously proud of my Black-Eyed Susans, as you can see.
What this picture doesn't show is the countless sheets of handwritten notes with plant info on them, the notebooks of graph paper with garden diagrams, and the stack of books I checked out of the library to help me plan a cohesive garden.
And that's only part of it. There was also the myriad of tools I went through online just to try and see two plants next to each other, to make sure I liked their vibe. Somehow, the best process I found was graph paper for planning to scale, and Microsoft Paint for viewing pictures of plants together 😑.
So I decided to make this tool.
It's not perfect — the images are all taken from Wikipedia Creative Commons, which don't get me wrong is amazing, but lacks some of the pizzazz of professional nursery photography. I'm also still working on building out a perfectly accurate catalog of native plants — but it's a start! And I figure if it helps one person plan a garden easier than with graph paper and MS Paint, then it's worth it.
I really want this site to be useful for people who want to make the Earth a more beautiful and ecologically healthy place. If you have ideas for new features or any feedback at all, I would LOVE to hear from you. Check out the Request a Feature page, or just drop me an email at [email protected] (I read them all). Thanks for sticking around this long enough to read this — and happy gardening!
